Aztech Selects PMC-Sierra Solutions for GPON ONT Equipment

(Product News, 20 Nov 2009 )

Singapore-based broadband equipment manufacturer Aztech Electronics Pte Ltd has selected PMC-Sierra Inc.’s solutions for its new GPON Optical Network Terminal (ONT) design. Aztech’s GPON 200E4 - 4 Port Gigabit Bridge ONT is built around PMC-Sierra’s PAS7401 SoC and targets residential and SOHO deployments where maximum performance and multiple GbE interfaces are required.

“Leading telcom companies are rapidly moving from traditional Fast Ethernet interfaces to GbE speeds,” said Michael Mun, Aztech Group CEO and President of Aztech Electronics. “Aztech’s GPON 200E4 - 4 Port Gigabit ONT is the best solution to meet requirements to provide multiple data, voice and video applications to end users. Aztech selected PMC-Sierra’s field-proven GPON ONT SoC and OMCI software to ensure that our ONT will connect to any Optical Line Terminal that telcom carriers choose to deploy.”

Aztech’s new GPON ONT targets this high-end and demanding FTTH market that requires wire speed throughput to the customer and a Gigabit Ethernet interface to the home. The ONT features four GbE user interfaces and supports 2.5G downstream traffic to the customer at any packet size. It is based on PMC-Sierra’s PAS7401 GPON ONT SoC and OMCI software package, which has proven to be interoperable with all major Optical Line Terminals (OLT) on the market at numerous interoperability events.

“PMC-Sierra is pleased to add Aztech to our expanding list of GPON design wins,” said Raphael Sankar, Vice President and Co-General Manager for PMC-Sierra’s FTTH division. “We continue to build on our position as the dominant FTTH silicon solution provider addressing the EPON, GPON, 10G EPON and 10G GPON markets. PMC-Sierra’s GPON product line, which includes ONT SoC, Quad-port OLT SoC and a complete software package, is becoming the benchmark for the industry.”

The PAS7401 product line integrates a GPON MAC, a VoIP subsystem, an embedded controller and GigaPASS bridge performing advanced classification, queuing and filtering, with wire-speed throughput at all packet sizes. Advanced power saving modes can lower PON deployment costs by reducing battery backup unit expenses. The reference designs come with complete GPON ONT software, featuring GPON functions, QoS bridging, VoIP, SIP and OMCI.

PMC-Sierra also provides a four-port GPON OLT SoC, the PAS5211 for Central Office equipment, and a GPON Gateway device, the MSP7162, for CPE.
