Microchip Technology Inc. has acquired ZeroG Wireless Inc, aiming to strengthen its wireless offerings and to allow designers to embed ZeroG’s Wi-Fi technology to its 8-, 16- or 32-bit PIC MCUs.
ZeroG, a privately held fabless semiconductor developer of Wi-Fi-certified transceivers and FCC-certified modules, has been acquired for an undisclosed price.
“This acquisition makes it easy for Microchip’s microcontroller customers to purchase certified Wi-Fi modules and proven software, to enable their embedded applications with Wi-Fi capability,” said Steve Caldwell, director of Microchip’s RF products division, in a statement.
Prior to the acquisition, the two companies had established a working relationship that included ZeroG and Microchip jointly engineering a Wi-Fi solution for a range of Microchip's 8/16/32-bit PIC microcontrollers.
Microchip advised ZeroG’s customers to continue to contact ZeroG through the normal sales and support channels that existed prior to the acquisition.
