DC/DC µModule regulator rated at 4A

( 01 Feb 2010 )
By Stephen Las Marias, Editor, EDN Asia

Linear Technology Corp.’s LTM8027 DC/DC µModule regulator can handle input voltages up to 60V without any protection, and can regulate output voltages ranging from 2.5V to 24V. Rated at 4A, the device integrates inductor, power switches, switching regulator and all support components in a small 15x15x4.32mm LGA plastic package.

The LTM8027’s rugged voltage rating makes it a suitable voltage regulator for 12V and 24V automotive and heavy equipment applications, including industrial robotics, telecom equipment, avionics, and industrial control systems. Its operating frequency can be adjusted with a resistor from 100kHz to 500kHz. The device can also be synched to an external clock to optimize efficiency for a given input-to-output voltage ratio or to prevent the device from interfering with a system’s sensitive operating frequency.

Linear Technology’s LTM8027 draws only 10µA during shutdown, and boasts efficiencies up to 93 percent. The LTM8027 operates within the -40ºC to 125ºC and -55ºC to 125ºC temperature ranges.
