ST-Ericsson will be cooperating with China Mobile on TD-LTE development, as well as in trial and interoperability testing (IOT) with infrastructure vendors.
Bill Huang, General Manager of China Mobile Research Institute, said: "
China Mobile and ST-Ericsson are cooperating very successfully on TD-SCDMA technology and we are happy to extend our partnership into the TD-LTE area and then multi-mode technologies in future. We share a common goal of creating a global LTE market encompassing both TDD and FDD technologies."
"For more than five years, ST-Ericsson has been driving innovation in mobile broadband technology and services, through the development, and now the deployment, of LTE," said Magnus Hansson, Senior Vice President and head of LTE and 3G Modem Solutions division at ST-Ericsson. "We will bring this experience and expertise to bear as we work with China Mobile to develop a platform for TD-LTE devices, which will bring this advanced technology, and the exciting services it will enable, a big step closer to commercial reality."
Based on its flexible architecture and its already established leadership in TD-SCDMA, ST-Ericsson will evolve its modem portfolio during 2010 to support a variety of multi-mode solutions, now also including TD-LTE.
