Intersil Corporation announced seven new data transceivers these are BiCMOS 3.3V powered, single transceivers that meet both the RS-485 and RS-422 standards for differential data communications. Such devices utilize balanced data-transmission schemes and are robust solutions for transmitting data over long distances and in noisy environments. These devices are ideal for applications in factory automation, security networks, building environmental control systems, industrial process control systems and automated utility meter-reading systems.
Key technical features of Intersil’s ISL8307xE includes RS-485 I/O pin ESD protection: +/-15kV HBM; Class 3 ESD protection (HBM) on all other pins are greater than 7kV; Full fail-safe (open, short, terminated/floating) receivers; Hot Swap circuitry; Transmit and receive outputs remain tri-stated during power-up; 1/8 unit load allows up to 256 devices on the bus; Specified for single 3.3V supplies (+/-10% tolerance); High data rates up to 20Mbps; Low quiescent supply current: 800uA (max); Low shutdown supply current: 10nA; Wide Common mode input/output voltage range: -7V to +12V; Half and full duplex pinouts; Tri-state receiver and transmitter outputs; Current limiting and thermal shutdown for driver overload protection.
Applications of ISL8307xE includes Automated utility meter reading systems; High node count systems; Factory automation; Field bus networks; Security camera networks; Building environmental control/lighting systems; Industrial/process control networks.
The ISL83070E thru ISL83078E transceivers are available now. The ISL83072E/75E/78E half duplex devices are available in the 8-lead small outline plastic packages (MSOP). The entire family is available in 8- and 14-lead small outline plastic packages (SOIC). The suggested resale price in 1K quantities is $1.26 for each device. Devices are also available on tape and reel.
