SIM/Smart Card interface handles two channels

( 01 Aug 2004 )
by Bill Schweber

Designed for 2.5G and 3G cellular telephones, the LTC4557 from Linear Technology provides two complete interfaces for SIM (subscriber identity modules) and Smart Cards. The power-supply and level-translator IC provides both 1.8 and 3.3V power from a 3 to 6V input through its low dropout (LDO) linear regulator, and can deliver up to 50mA. Internal level translators allow controllers, which operate from a 1.2 to 4.4V supply, to interface with 1.8/3.3V ISM cards through this IC, as well. The 0.75mm high, 16-lead QFN IC measures 333mm, draws just 100½A quiescent current, and can withstand >10kV ESD on all pins. It is fully compatible with relevant specifications, such as ETSI, EMV, and ISO7816, and is $2.50 in 1000-piece orders.
