National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the trade body and the chamber of commerce of the IT software and services industry in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC). The objective is to encourage exchange of information and knowledge about an array of issues pertinent to the industry.
The committee aims to meet twice a year to discuss areas of common interest. It is also anticipated that the committee will undertake joint activities including conferences and research projects to advance the understanding by the business communities and the potential business opportunities in India and Canada.
S. Ramadorai, chairman, NASSCOM and CEO, Tata Consultancy Services, said, "We are delighted to partner with ITAC to share information and best practices in the development of the ICT industry and building institutional linkages between the two associations".
The first joint event undertaken by ITAC and NASSCOM will be a conference on the ‘global division of knowledge work’ is scheduled in Toronto on November 14, 2005.
Brian McFadden, vice-chairman, ITAC, stated, “India is emerging as a vital contributor to the global landscape in information and communications technology. Nortel has a significant and growing presence in India. We believe that forging closer ties with our peers in India will alert the ICT industry to the many opportunities that the nation offers.”
NASSCOM has also served as catalytic force in the larger Indian economy. ITAC seeks to understand how this transformation occurred and to see if there are lessons to be learned that can be of use to Canada.
