Due to the growing electronic content in present-day automobiles, the demand for electronic control units (ECUs)—that process the information from various sensors in a vehicle and send the signals to actuators—are constantly rising. This is likely to lead to a corresponding increase in the demand for ECU test equipment.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan World Automotive ECU Functional Test Equipment Markets, reveals that revenues in this market totaled $154.8 million in 2004 and projects to reach $330.4 million in 2011.
Poornima Vijayan and Karthik R., analysts, Frost & Sullivan Research, stated, ¡°Vehicles today come equipped with a plethora of advanced features aimed at enhancing passenger safety and comfort such as steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire, drive-by-wire, automatic lane-following and intelligent cruise control. These and other critical vehicle functions such as engine control, antilock braking system (ABS) and air bag deployment call for extremely sophisticated testing equipment.¡±
Karthik, added, ¡°By providing products at an attractive price-performance ratio as well as working closely with ECU manufacturers and automotive makers throughout the product development cycle of an ECU, test equipment vendors can gain a competitive edge through providing more customized solutions.¡±
