Canada-based ATI Technologies has expanded its research and development centre in Hyderabad, India. The new 48,000-square foot facility can accommodate more than 400 engineers, which will allow the company to double its current staff of 175. This center is the company's largest R&D operation outside North America.
"Expanding into a new facility in less than a year indicates ATI's acknowledgement of Indian talent in VLSI design," says Adrian Hartog, senior vice president and GM, consumer business unit, ATI Technologies Inc. "It will enable us to maintain our growth curve, improve our productivity and strengthen our commitment to provide 3D graphics and digital media silicon solutions to our worldwide customer base," adds Dasaradha Gude, Managing Director, ATI Technologies India.
ATI's India center focuses on research and development of audio and digital media products. The Hyderabad center is currently working on developing chipsets for cellphones, HDTVs and set-top boxes. The company acquired a local company called CuTe Solutions, a developer of audio and digital media software, which now forms the nucleus of its India development operations.
