Radio transmitter IC consumes 30% less power

( 01 Sep 2006 )

Micrel Inc.’s MICRF405 is said to be the industry’s most power-efficient radio transmitter IC in its class. The latest in Micrel’s family of low-power RadioWire radio solutions, this IC complements Micrel’s MICRF505/506 line of low-power radio transceivers. Designed to cover all geographic regions and targeted at high-end remote keyless entry, automatic meter reading, building automation and industrial control, it offers both ASK/OOK and FSK modulation, and covers all four sub-GHz bands (315, 433, 868 and 915MHz). Available in a 4 4mm MLF package, it has has fewer external components than ICs currently on the market. The MICRF405 addresses the trend of migrating from simple ASK/OOK modulation solutions to FSK devices that feature higher output power and longer range. The chip supports this migration while retaining backwards compatibility with legacy ASK systems.
