WI-FI Alliance selects Wipro to provide pre-certification services at Bangalore lab

(Top News, 20 Oct 2006 )
By Vinod Kataria

Wipro Technologies, the global IT Services Division of Wipro Limited, has been selected by the Wi-Fi Alliance to become an authorized pre-certification test lab. The pre-certification lab will allow Wipro to pre-test products for Wi-Fi Alliance members who are planning to pursue Wi-Fi certification, and marks the Wi-Fi Alliance's first presence in the India market.

Wipro has established a dedicated test lab within its Bangalore test facilities of its testing services division. The lab will service Wi-Fi Alliance members with equipment and trained engineers. Wi-Fi Alliance member companies from around the world will be able to submit products for testing to Wipro lab.

Frank Hanzlik, managing director, Wi-Fi Alliance, said, "We are very excited to partner with Wipro on this important project. Many of our members rely on pre-certification testing as an important step in the quality assurance process, and Wipro's expertise and facility will be an excellent addition to our worldwide lab presence."

Gangadharaiah, senior vice president, testing services, Wipro Technologies, stated, "Wipro does a lot of product testing for technology customers. Wipro is now one of three companies in the world designated as a Wi-Fi Alliance Pre-certification Lab."

Suresh Vaswani, president, Global IT Service Lines, Wipro Technologies, explained, "Testing is a strongly differentiated service line for Wipro Technologies. With this relationship with the Wi-Fi Alliance, we further enhance our end-to-end WLAN testing capability."

The Wi-Fi Alliance certifies devices for interoperability based on the IEEE 802.11 family of standards. A device that has passed testing and complies with Wi-Fi Alliance requirements can be designated as Wi-Fi Certified. Only Wi-Fi Alliance member companies are eligible to participate in certification programs.

Frank Hanzlik, managing director of the Wi-Fi Alliance, noted, "Numerous Wi-Fi Alliance member companies currently have large-scale operations in India. With increasing demand for Wi-Fi products worldwide, it is only natural that we extend member services in India and the pre-certification lab is just the start."
