Qimonda, supplier of memory products, announced that its advanced memory buffer (AMB) chip, a key component for deployment of high-performance computer server memory modules, received Intel validation for applications on Bensley server platforms, including systems using the new Intel Xeon Processor 5300 Series (Clovertown) quad-core server processors. With qualification and volume production of the AMB chip, Qimonda is now the only memory supplier offering all components for double data rate 2 (DDR2) fully-buffered dual-in-line memory modules (FB-DIMMs), which it brings to market both as complete modules and as components for integration by its customers.
Thomas Seifert, member of the management board of Qimonda, said, “Qimonda has supported the evolution of FB-DIMM as a key technology for next-generation computing infrastructure, and today we are the only provider of a complete solution designed for optimal performance and value. This is a complex solution, combining memory and logic devices in a single design, and Qimonda is delivering both components and modules that achieve industry-leading performance and power efficiency.”
Ali Sarabi, director of industry initiatives and pathfinding, digital enterprise group, Intel, stated, "FB-DIMM is a critical memory technology for advanced computing systems, and key to its continued adoption in the industry is the broad availability of proven solutions from leading suppliers such as Qimonda. With the validation of the Qimonda AMB chip, the market now has a new qualified source for this key component of FB-DIMM memory products."
