Renesas Technology has launched two tunable antenna varicap diodes for digital terrestrial broadcast capable portable and mobile terminals: the RKV653KP featuring a small size of 0.6x0.3mm, and the extended-package RKV653KL.
A tunable antenna is an antenna that can change resonance frequencies for effective receiving of wide range frequency bands. As this makes it possible to handle the frequencies used in digital terrestrial broadcasting for portable and mobile terminals (One-Seg broadcasting) with a small package, a tunable antenna advances an incorporation of antenna into One-Seg broadcast capable mobile phones.
Both devices achieve a high capacitance change ratio of 2.7 (in case of C1/C3) at a low voltage of around 3V through optimization of the PN junction formation process conditions and the epitaxial layer. In addition, the capacitance standard deviation indicating variance in characteristics of individual products has been made ±5% as a standard specification, helping to improve antenna reception efficiency.
