Renesas Technology Corp. announced that the SH-Mobile G1, a dual-mode single-chip LSI developed jointly with NTT DoCoMo Inc., that supports both the W-CDMA (3G) and GSM/GPRS (2G) communication standards, has been selected for the new FOMA 903i W-CDMA mobile phone handsets by NTT DoCoMo. FOMA 903i handsets incorporating the SH-Mobile G1 will be manufactured by Fujitsu Limited (the F903i) and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (the D903i).
Minoru Sakata, general manager of the platform development division, mobile phone business unit, Fujitsu, said, "The SH-Mobile G1 was adopted in the F882iES series handset first, which has been a popular model since it was introduced in September, because of the slim form factor and light weight enabled by the SH-Mobile chip. This time, the same chip is incorporated into the new F903i series, helping to provide improved handset functionality, while enabling lower power consumption and size advantages. We plan to release an expanded lineup of new handset products employing the SH-Mobile G1 in the future."
Koichi Sada, deputy general manager of the mobile terminal center of Mitsubishi Electric, stated, "The SH-Mobile G1 used in the new D903i was a big help in making the handset even slimmer while providing substantially enhanced functionality. We plan to use the SH-Mobile G1 to strengthen more of our products in the future."
Ikuya Kawasaki, deputy general manager of system solution business unit 2 at Renesas Technology Corp., explained, "I am extremely pleased that the SH-Mobile G1 has been selected for the new F903i and D903i handsets supporting NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA service. We plan to work actively in the years ahead to develop new mobile phone platforms for the worldwide W-CDMA market, including FOMA, using the SH-Mobile G Series as the core."
