Magma expands Bangalore facility, adds Mumbai operation

(Business News, 30 Jan 2007 )

Magma Design Automation Inc., a provider of semiconductor design software, has expanded its India operations with the inauguration of a new 40,000-square-foot facility in Bangalore. Magma is the only global EDA company to have a three-city R&D footprint in India. It opened a facility in Noida in 2006, and gained a Mumbai office as part of its November acquisition of Knights Technology. The three facilities will enable Magma to expand significantly in the region, provide better support to its rapidly growing customer base in India and tap into the world-class engineering talent available in and around these three centers.

The opening ceremony for the Bangalore facility was presided over by Rajeev Madhavan, Magma chairman and CEO, and Roy E. Jewell, president and COO of the company. They were joined by M. N. Vidyashankar, IT secretary, Government of Karnataka, and J. Parthasarathy, director, STPI-Bangalore, as well as key customers and partners.

“Magma is focused on building on our success in chip design implementation to expand our product portfolio and address other markets, including circuit simulation and physical verification,” said Madhavan. “We are making significant investments in R&D, product engineering and applications engineering globally, and India will continue to play a significant role across these three areas.”

“The new facilities in Bangalore and Mumbai enhance further our ability to attract an increasing number of talented engineers in India who will play a key role in developing products that fully address the RTL-to-silicon design flow and allow our users to reduce the turnaround time and costs of nanometer semiconductor design,” said Jewell “A globally distributed product development and support network gives Magma access to talent anywhere in the world to ensure our customers’ success.”

“India’s growing semiconductor market, depth of technology talent and excellent university and government-sponsored engineering training programs make Bangalore an ideal location for Magma to expand,” said Anand AnandKumar, managing director of Magma Design Automation Pte Ltd. “We expect the India headcount to cross 200 this year.”
