AVX has released a vertical connector that can become an alternative to hand soldering processes and two-piece connector systems in 18AWG applications with perpendicular terminations and limited board space.

The 58-9296 series vertical poke-home connectors feature a stamped and formed phosphor bronze box contact that maximises both board attachment and wire capturing strength. This 9296 connector also offers a single beam contact that securely captures and retains the wire in a 23% smaller size. Thus, it fits into tight spaces between larger plated through hole (PTH) components. It also has tight tolerances in critical areas to minimise the potential ingress resulting from the secondary potting or epoxy encapsulation processes.

Rated for 8A, 600VAC and operating temperatures spanning -40°C to 130°C, the 58-9296 connectors have lead-free tin plating that enhances corrosion resistance and contact strength, dual solder tabs that anchor the connector onto PCBs, and instead of Kapton tape, an integral moulded flange with a generous vacuum pick-up point for automated SMT placement.

Furthermore, with RoHS compliance these connectors are widely used in industrial machine controls, power supplies, motors, drives, solenoids, sensors, fans and pumps; commercial building controls and security and fire sensors; smart grid meters, breakers, and panels; and SSL/LED drivers, fixtures, signage and streetlights.
