Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and telecommunications solutions and services, today announced the launch of the SPARC Enterprise T5140 and T5240 servers, the first servers using the new UltraSPARC® T2 Plus processor, to Hong Kong customers. The trailblazing new servers offer up to 16 and 32 times higher compute density than competitive two-socket x86 systems and four-socket x86 systems respectively. Fujitsu’s SPARC Enterprise T5140 and T5240 servers are the first dual-socket, general-purpose servers powered by UltraSPARC® T2 Plus processor, providing up to three times more performance than competitive RISC systems in only half of the latter’s footprint. The new servers also set new industry standards in performance, price/performance and power and space utilisation on various business-critical and compute-intensive workloads of business enterprises. For example, the dual-socket SPARC Enterprise T5240 server is delivering up to five times more performance and 2.5 times better performance per watt when compared with a wide range of competitive models. It is also holding the world record for all dual-processor servers on the two-tier SAP® Sales and Distribution Standard Application Benchmark . Featuring up to 128 compute threads in compact one- or two-rack units and two to four times more memory and internal hard disk capacity than competitive x86 systems, SPARC Enterprise T5140 and T5240 servers will also enable customers to consolidate their data centre infrastructure into a smaller and more energy-efficient environment with significant performance upgrades, up to three times better performance per watt. “The latest models of SPARC Enterprise servers are Fujitsu’s response to rising customer demand for compact, eco-friendly and high performing systems to support web scale, Java and database applications,” said James Pang, General Manager, Information System & Services Division, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited. “The T5140 and T5240 servers are ideal platforms for Web 2.0 services, or even classic customer relations management or enterprise resource planning applications, for which reliability and operating capabilities are the most critical. Enterprises that have a growing demand for reliable and volume online transactions, such as retail, distribution and logistics, will certainly find the record-setting servers a powerful support to their booming business.” Best suited for server virtualisation and consolidation, the SPARC Enterprise T5140 and T5240 servers are ready to provide customers with the highest level of flexibility in resource planning and reliability in system performance. Each system allows up to 128 virtual servers, thus enabling customers to deploy 5,120 isolated domains per rack. Both models are also equipped with the industry’s only flexible and open source virtualisation technology with SolarisTM Containers and Logical Domains (LDoms), which enables customers to capitalise on the cost-effective benefits of virtualisation at no extra cost for proprietary solutions. Other features of the SPARC Enterprise T5140 and T5240 servers include on-chip, integrated PCI-E and cryptographic acceleration coupled with the high reliability of the server design. The new models are also fully supported by Fujitsu’s renowned and professional service teams. For more information, please visit http://hk.fujitsu.com.
