Arduino-based prototyping tool boosts IoT innovation

Digital security technologies provider Gemalto has introduced a rapid prototyping tool that it said will speed and simplify the creation of IoT proof-of-concepts. Built on the Arduino design environment, the Cinterion Connect Shield development board features a modem chipset optimised for low-power IoT devices, according to the company.
The prototyping tool currently works with Gemalto's LTE Cat. 1 wireless connectivity technology, using the Arduino board format and programming language. Its future roadmap includes the migration to the latest Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) standard in the second quarter of 2017.
NB-IoT adoption will facilitate a host of new IoT and M2M applications, including sensing and monitoring initiatives for the smart city and smart agriculture, and intelligent metering in the utilities sector, according to Gemalto.
