A500's power consumption is 50% lower compared to traditional LDO regulators.
Genesys Logic has launched a high performance USB 3.1 Gen1/Lightning iAP2 memory card reader controller, the A500.
A500 is a SD 4.0 UHS-II memory card reader controller which supports dual host interfaces, USB 3.1 Gen1 and Apple Lightning iAP2. The USB-C interface is used to move files from SD card to Macbook and new Macbook Pro, while user of Apple Lighting interface can backup photo, video and document to SD card to release the iPhone storage capacity.
A500 supports UHS-II high speed technology that is 3 times faster than UHS-I, according to the company. In the real test, moving a 60GB 4K film from SD card to PC took 11 minutes and 40 seconds by UHS-I, while it took only 3 minutes and 41 seconds UHS-II.
A500 has also been tested R320/W270 MB/s of reading/writing performance on PC and R35/W32 MB/s on iPhone.
In addition to performance, thermal effect is another factor to consider in mobile card reader application. To solve this problem, A500 integrates 5V-to-1.2V DC-DC regulator to improve the power efficiency. Compared to traditional LDO regulator, the power consumption of A500 is 50% lower and customers can design tiny/compact card readers easily.
Design kit for A500 USB 3.1 Gen1/Lightning iAP2 to SD 4.0 UHS-II card reader is available now. The kit includes A500 controller, customised firmware, evaluation board, system design service, simple App for testing usage, iOS SDK and technical support.
