Card reader controller targets smart card, NFC apps

GL3239 supports ISO7816 standard to access smart card and is certificated with EMV 4.0 Level 1 and PC/SC 2.0, according to Genesys Logic.

IC design company Genesys Logic has rolled out a USB 3.1 Gen1 card reader controller, the GL3239, which supports smart card, NFC application and SD 3.0 UHS-I card to reduce RBOM and PCB size.

The card reader controller can be connected to PC via a USB port. Users can use NFC tag to login Windows and start the wireless transmission between PC and smart phone. GL3239, which can be used in embedded systems, also allows user to operate internet ATM, backup photos to SD card.

GL3239 supports ISO7816 standard to access smart card and is certificated with EMV 4.0 Level 1 and PC/SC 2.0, according to the company. For NFC application, GL3239 can be configured as Reader mode/Card mode/P2P mode that supported by the communication protocol ISO14443A/B, ISO15693 and ISO18092. For storage interface, GL3239 supports SD 3.0 UHS-I speed mode and large capacity SDXC card.

GL3239 supports USB 3.1 Gen1 interface and have been certificated with USB-IF SuperSpeed silicon device. It also supports Apple Lightning iAP2 protocol to communicate with Apple device for accessory application.

Design kit for GL3239 card reader is available now. The kit includes GL3239 controller, firmware, evaluation board, system design service, Windows SDK, demo AP and technical support. Genesys Logic will also provide assistance in product development and mass production.
