GaN amplifier offers pulse, CW support

Analog Devices claims that unlike comparative designs, its HMC8205 operates both continuous wave and pulse operations.

Analog Devices Inc. has released the HMC8205, a wideband gallium nitride (GaN) power amplifier designed for applications such as wireless infrastructure, radar, public mobile radio and general-purpose amplification test equipment that require pulse or continuous wave (CW) support.

According to Analog Devices, the HMC8205 GaN MMIC amplifier is packaged in a compact design and requires minimal external circuitry, thus minimising the overall component count and board space. It also combines DC feed/RF bias choke, DC blocking capacitors, and driver stage. It delivers 35W with up to 44% power added efficiency (PAE) across an instantaneous bandwidth, the company noted.

The HMC8205 is now in full production and samples are also available. The device is priced at $469 each per 1,000 quantities.
