Additions to the InnoSwitch3-MX series of isolated switchers from Power Integrations enable PSU designs with continuous output power of up to 75 W without a heatsink. Leveraging the company’s PowiGaN technology, the switchers team with an InnoMux controller IC for multiple-output, single-stage power supplies for monitors, TVs, and appliances that employ LED displays.

The INN3478C, INN3479C, and INN3470C flyback switcher ICs combine a 750-V primary switch, a primary-side controller, a secondary-side synchronous rectification controller, and FluxLink high-speed communications link. These devices receive control instructions from their chipset partner InnoMux, which independently measures the load requirements of each output and directs the switcher IC to deliver the right amount of power to each output, maintaining accurate regulation of current or voltage.

The InnoMux chipset employs a single-stage architecture that reduces losses in display applications by 50% compared to conventional designs, increasing overall efficiency to 91% in constant-voltage and constant-current LED backlight driver designs. With a breakdown voltage of 750 V, the PowiGaN InnoSwitch3-MX parts are extremely robust and highly resistant to line surges and swells commonly found in regions with unstable mains voltages.

Prices for the INN3478C, INN3479C, and INN3470C start at $2.52, $3.14, and $3.71, respectively, in lots of 10,000 units.
