Osram’s Oslon Piccolo infrared LED packs high optical power in a tiny footprint for automotive interior applications like gesture control. This ultra-compact infrared LED delivers DC power of 1.15 W at 1A and fast switching times of 10 ns. The device is AEC-Q102 qualified and comes in two wavelengths: 850 nm (SFH 4170S A01) and 940 nm (SFH 4180S A01).

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and technologies previously designed for mobile devices, such as facial recognition, eye tracking, and gesture control, are increasingly making their way into the automotive sector. Smaller and more powerful infrared illumination devices, such as the Oslon Piccolo, are easier to integrate into complex designs. Oslon Piccolo has dimensions of just 1.6×1.6 mm and a package height of only 0.81 mm, allowing it to be installed in a very small space and making it well-suited for interactive automotive systems.

The Oslon Piccolo can be used as both a constant light source for camera-based applications and for 3D image acquisition with modulated or fast pulse light. It operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +105°V.
