Platinum Tools’ Net Chaser tests for noise in the network, detecting faults in the cable wiring and ensuring that cables are able to support the speed capabilities of active components.
Platinum Tools has announced a handheld tester that tests and speed-certifies the data-carrying capabilities of Ethernet network cables up to 1Gb/s. According to the company, the Net Chaser tests for noise in the network, detecting faults in the cable wiring and ensuring that cables are able to support the speed capabilities of active components, such as servers, switches and routers.
Net Chaser performs speed certification to IEEE 802.3 standards and cable testing to TIA568A/B standards. It conducts bit error rate (BER) tests by sending data packets down specified cable runs at defined data rates to check for errors at the maximum throughput of the link. The unit also performs signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and skew measurements, as well as continuity tests for detecting opens, shorts, miswires, split pairs, reversals and high-resistance faults.
Other features of the network tester include Power over Ethernet measurements, port discovery, the ability to ping specific IPs and URLs, and trace routing. NetChaser presents test results on a 3.5in colour touch-screen display and saves data for export to a PC in PDF or CSV format.
Net Chaser has an MSRP of $1,899.95.
