Anritsu's Power Master MA24507A USB RF power meter lets you select which frequencies to measure RF power, letting you distinguish between wanted and unwanted signals in your power measurements. I had a chance to see the power meter on display at EDICON, Sept. 20-22, 2016 in Boston.
Covering frequencies from 9kHz to 70GHz, the Power Master MA24507A lets you select a frequency range from 1kHz up to its full 70GHz. That feature lets you focus on transmitted signals or look between channels to measure adjacent channel power (ACP). You can also adjust the bandwidth to look at the power in harmonics of the intended signal. It can measure power levels down to −90dBm. Set to its upper frequency range (6.15GHz to 70GHz), the MA24507A can measure power levels to +15dBm while at frequencies below 6.15GHz, maximum power readings are +10dBm.
The Power Master MA24507A's small size lets you connect it directly to your DUT, eliminating cables that add losses and distortion to measurements. It's also portable, letting you make measurements in the field or in the lab. Its software has a "Power Hunter" setting that lets you scan a preset frequency range as narrow as 1kHz up to the full frequency span.
Like other USB power meters, the Power Master MA24507A gets its power from the USB cable. It's also the first test instrument I've seen that uses a USB Type-C cable—it was using a Type-C to standard Type-A USB cable in the Anritsu booth. It communicates to a Windows PC at USB 3.0 speeds (5Gbps) and it has a maximum current draw of 900mA.
