Rohde & Schwarz’s R&S TSME and R&S ROMES enable over-the-air characterisation of 5G network analysis and optimisation within 28GHz.

Rohde & Schwarz has introduced its R&S TSME drive test scanner and R&S ROMES drive test software for over-the-air characterisation of 5G network coverage based on 5G technical specifications. This mobile network testing paves the way for the emergence of 5G by providing field and coverage measurement solution at 28GHz. In addition, data gathered on the propagation of signals at 28GHz can be used to determine the optimum position of receiving CPE (customer premises equipment) antennas, and to validate and improve network planning tools.

Still in 28GHz band, the 5G network deployments will be with U.S.- and South Korean-based operators leading the timeline. Given the jump in frequency, bandwidth and complexity, for example beamforming of the next generation radio access network, testing its performance in the field will be critical to allow the progression of the technology. Rohde & Schwarz said their 5G coverage measurement demonstrator products will make mobile network testing possible.
